The Prisoner’s Dilemma as a Two-Level Game: An Experimental Investigation

چکیده
This paper extends the literature on individual versus group decision-making by combining a strategic inter-group game with an intra-group voting mechanism. The intergroup game is a simple Prisoners’ Dilemma, while we consider two versions of an intragroup voting mechanism—a form of representative democracy and a majority vote. Our results suggest that players tend to be more cooperative in the representative democracy treatment than in the individual Prisoner’s Dilemma. There are also important behavioral differences between the individual Prisoner’s Dilemma and the majority vote treatments—individuals embedded in groups are more inclined to cooperate than subjects making independent decisions. Modeling Cooperation between Nodes in Wireless Networks by APD Game
Cooperation is the foundation of many protocols in wireless networks. Without cooperation, the performance of a network significantly decreases. Hence, all nodes in traditional networks are required to cooperate with each other. In this paper, instead of traditional networks, a network of rational and autonomous nodes is considered, which means that each node itself can decide whe...

متن کاملQuantum model of strategic decision-making in Prisoner’s Dilemma game: quantitative predictions and new empirical results
The Disjunction effect introduced in the famous study by Shafir and Tversky (1992) and confirmed by several following studies remains one of key ‘anomalies’ for the standard model of the Prisoner’s Dilemma game. In the last 10 years, new approaches have appeared that explain this effect with the use of quantum probability theory. But the existing results do not allow parameter-free test of thes...
متن کاملEquilibrium selection in similar repeated games: experimental evidence on the role of precedents
We report on an experiment examining behavior and equilibrium selection in two similar, infinitely repeated games, Stag Hunt and Prisoner’s Dilemma under anonymous random matching. We are interested in the role that historical precedents may play for equilibrium selection between these two repeated games. We find that a precedent for efficient play in the repeated Stag Hunt game does not carry ...

The iterated prisoner’s dilemma is a cooperation between agents mathematical representation. This modelcomes from game theory, which initial goal is to study conflict of interest situations. Unfortunately resultsimplied by the theory on the prisoner’s dilemma are so poor that it could not be used seriously. A newevolutionary approach, mainly based on computer simulations, has been i...
